Seven New Cask Masters Bottlings. Autumn Edition

As the leaves start to turn, we're bringing seven new single cask bottlings to the Cask Masters range, spanning across all the regions in Scotland with some genuinely interesting maturations and finishes to see you through the colder months ahead. A few of these are casks we've been keeping an eye on for a while, and it's good to finally get them bottled and out the door. The batch covers both tiers: three expressions in Golden Proof, matured to approachable strength, and four in Distiller's Cut at natural cask strength.

Dalrymple 12 Year Old · Lowland Single Malt · 51.9% ABV
1st Fill Madeira Barrique · Distilled 07/11/2013 · 343 bottles

This Lowland spirit starts out light and clean — vanilla, orchard fruit, the usual gentle Dalrymple character — but the Madeira barrique has other ideas. It piles on stewed fruit, mince pie spice, and a candied, plummy richness, oily and full-bodied, finishing properly long. A cask that seems determined to do the opposite of what a "normal" wine finish would, and this is what we like about it.

Linkwood 14 Year Old · Speyside Single Malt · 49.8% ABV
1st Fill Tawny Port Barrique · Distilled 18/05/2012 · 311 bottles

Linkwood is a quietly respected Speyside distillery, known for a soft, floral, grassy spirit long prized by blenders. Finish in a first fill Tawny Port Barrique brings flavours of beeswax and berry fruit, a real redcurrant compote sweetness, jammy and honeyed, with a creamy, chalky, mineral backbone.

Tomintoul 11 Year Old · Speyside Single Malt · 51.3% ABV
1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Barrique · Distilled 26/01/2015 · 264 bottles

Tomintoul is often called "the gentle dram" — a light, clean Speyside spirit built for easy drinking. A generous 46-month finish in a first fill Oloroso Sherry Barrique brings candied orange peel and clementine, a touch of liquorice and salmiakki, and a peanut brittle sweetness — soft, salty, and juicy, without really losing that gentle character.

Royal Brackla 10 Year Old · Highland Single Malt · 56.9% ABV
1st Fill Fino Sherry Hogshead · Distilled 16/09/2015 · 246 bottles

Royal Brackla holds a royal warrant dating back to 1835, producing a spirit that's fruity and slightly nutty in character. A substantial 45-month finish in a Fino Sherry Hogshead brings out something almost woodland — earthy, mossy, forest-floor notes with green shoots and herbaceousness, plus a briny sea-spray lift and a touch of eucalyptus. Fino's dry, saline signature runs right through it.

Caol Ila 14 Year Old · Islay Single Malt · 56.5% ABV
1st Fill PX Sherry Hogshead · Distilled 10/01/2012 · 289 bottles

Caol Ila produces a smoky Islay spirit, but the smoke leans more towards barbeque char than heavy peat — sweeter and more balanced than some of its island neighbours, with a lot of it destined for blends. A first fill PX Sherry Hogshead is a bold pairing, and it shows: rubber, engine oil, and old leather couch sit alongside tar, wet ashes, and burned sugar, with mochaccino cherries and a kick of red chilli cutting through. Dry, cigar-box, and properly moody, with a medium finish.

Glen Elgin 16 Year Old · Speyside Single Malt · 55.1% ABV
1st Fill Bourbon Hogshead · Distilled 29/06/2010 · 255 bottles

Glen Elgin is another blender's favourite, prized for a rich, honeyed, slightly waxy character. Sixteen years in a first fill Bourbon Hogshead is classic territory — vanilla, gooseberry jam, and stone fruit (nectarine, peach), with a creamy white chocolate note and a little white pepper lift. Clean, fresh, and 'very relaxed', it's the kind of dram built for a lazy summer evening, wrapping up on a short, easy finish.

Orkney Single Malt 20 Year Old · Island Single Malt · 58.1% ABV
American Oak Hogshead · Distilled 08/06/2006 · 270 bottles

This spirit from the Northern islands is built around heather honey and a soft peat smoke, with orange zest and wood spice running through it. Twenty years in an American Oak Hogshead has let that character settle into something wonderfully playful — cotton candy and sherbet, strawberries and icing sugar, alongside a proper sea-salt tang and even a whisper of salt beef sandwich. Milk bottle sweets and milk toffee sit next to pastel de nata custard notes, with a chalky, flinty minerality keeping it grounded.
