Our Newest Cask Masters Release: Exploring the Character of First Fill Casks

July 10, 2025

We're excited to introduce the latest Cask Masters release — a fresh batch of single cask Scotch whiskies that continues our focus on transparency, flavour, and distinctive wood types. Every whisky in this new line-up has been matured in or finished in 1st fill casks, and as always, each bottling is natural, single cask, and fully traceable.

This time around, we’ve taken a bit of a deeper dive into more unusual wood finishes — from rye whiskey barrels and Tokaj wine casks to barriques that once held French red wine or vintage port. Exploring the interaction between spirit and cask is a big part of what Cask Masters is about, and we’ve tried to capture a wide range of styles and flavours in this release.

Golden Proof bottlings

Golden Proof is our more approachable range, bottled at around 50% ABV to offer both flavour and drinkability. It’s all about balance, with a continued emphasis on first-fill casks that really shape the whisky’s character.

Dailuaine 13 Year Old

1st Fill Bourbon Hogshead | 51.8% ABV | 255 Bottles

A classic, gentle Speysider with soft fruits and vanilla influence from the bourbon cask.

Teaninich 9 Year Old

Finished in 1st Fill Vintage Port Barrique | 49.9% ABV | 307 Bottles

A bolder expression, with red fruits and a warming, spicy finish.

Blair Athol 13 Year Old

1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask | 51.2% ABV | 309 Bottles

Rich and round with dried fruit, nuttiness, and a touch of classic sherry spice.

Linkwood 12 Year Old

Finished in 1st Fill Tannat Wine Barrique | 50.5% ABV | 344 Bottles

Tannat is a lesser-used wine finish, adding depth, structure, and a slightly savoury edge.

Distiller’s Cut bottlings

Distiller’s Cut is where we like to bottle whisky just as it comes from the cask. It gives us a chance to work with more powerful, expressive styles and explore cask types that are uncommon in whisky maturation.

Auchroisk 13 Year Old

Finished in 1st Fill Rye Whiskey Barrel | 57.1% ABV | 275 Bottles

Spicy, oily and slightly herbal — the rye barrel finish brings a different kind of complexity.

Glenglassaugh 11 Year Old

1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead | 54.3% ABV | 288 Bottles

Full of rich, sherried notes, with dark fruits and a gentle coastal character underneath.

Caol Ila 14 Year Old

Finished in 1st Fill Hospices de Nuits Barrique | 56.7% ABV | 300 Bottles

A smoky Islay whisky with a twist — the red wine barrique adds a soft, fruity depth.

Glen Spey 13 Year Old

1st Fill White Wine Barrique | 56.7% ABV | 230 Bottles

A light, floral dram with bright fruit tones, lifted by the white wine finish.

Mannochmore 13 Year Old

Finished in 1st Fill Tokaj Wine Barrique | 53.2% ABV | 278 Bottles

This was an experiment we’re really happy with — Tokaj brings honeyed sweetness and dried apricots that pair beautifully with the spirit.

This latest release continues the Cask Masters series, which we launched at the start of this year. Since then, it’s been great to see the range gradually become available in nearly 10 countries, with a handful of exclusive bottlings released along the way for retailers in Germany, whisky fans in Hong Kong and Japan, and during this year’s Islay Festival.

As always, we’re grateful to everyone who’s supported us so far. If you come across one of these bottles, we hope you enjoy exploring it as much as we did putting it together.
